Copa America 2021: Argentina to face Brazil in the final after win over Colombia

Argentina beat Colombia 3-2 in penalty shootout to reach Copa America 2021 final

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved three penalties in the shootout

Argentina will face Brazil in the Copa America final after they beat Colombia 3-2 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday following a 1-1 draw in their semi-final at the Mane Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia.

Emiliano Martinez saved David Ospina, Yerri Mina and Edwin Cardona's spot-kicks as Argentina advanced to their first Copa America final since 2016.

Lautaro Martinez scored the winning penalty for Argentina, sending Ospina the wrong way after Lionel Messi, Leandro Paredes and Rodrigo De Paul had all converted their spot kicks.

The game had finished 3-2 to Colombia at the end of the penalty shootout following extra time, with the scores level at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Lautaro Martinez had given Argentina the lead in the seventh minute but Luis Diaz equalised for Colombia just before half-time.

Neither side could find a winning goal in extra time, so the match went to a penalty shootout.

Argentina will now face Brazil in the Copa America final on Saturday, July 10, at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
