In 2021, the median household income in the United States was $67,521. This means that a person earning between $45,014 and $135,042 would be considered middle class.

For example, the calculator shows that the middle-class income range is higher in major cities than in rural areas. In New York City, for example, the middle-class income range is $62,000 to $186,000. In rural areas, the middle-class income range is $40,000 to $120,000.
